Bayou West in Central Pinellas | What happened to Rottlund Homes

Bayou West in Central Pinellas was developed and built by Rottlund Homes. Once an open field, Rottlund built an upscale single family neighborhood with 36 homes, and by the end of the year 2000 a new little community was born. Rottlund homes moved on and successfully completed many other single family and townhome communities in Pinellas County.

In the fall of 2011, the Homebuilder Rottlund Homes stopped to exist; the company was reduced to a pile of remaining assets that needed to be sold to whoever would be willing to buy them. This article describes how the exceedingly high debt amount and lack of sales revenue lead to the company’s demise:

Hidden Bayou in Largo, FL is a townhome community that was started by Rottlund Homes prices started in the low 300’s, and now the flags and a billboard proudly proclaim that Ryland Homes is selling there starting at $160,000.-. The product is different, with new pricing which is lower than Rottlund’s. It will be interesting to see how other builders get to finish the communities that Rottlund started, often those subdivisions where two different builders built turn out very appealing, with a great end-result, the gated single family home community “Traditions” in Seminole is a great example for that.
