The Homes at Copperleaf in The Bayou Club Largo, FL

Copperleaf at The Bayou Club

The Homes at Copperleaf is a subdivisions within The Bayou Club in Largo, FL, and consists of 60 single family homes. When building started in Copperleaf at The Bayou Club  initially, there were six unique plans to choose from, all of the houses have spacious layouts, with lots of storage, and many of the homes have 3 car garages.

Since the majority of the homes in Copperleaf were built in the 90’s, many houses have been remodeled, updated, and further customized since the original owners built them. The homes are all beautifully situated, either overlooking the 1st, 9th and 18th fairways of the award winning Bayou Club golf course designed by Tom Fazio, or they have wonderful lake views.

Bent Grass Court at Copperleaf

One of the features of The Homes at Copperleaf in The Bayou Club Largo, that is really popular with the young residents, is the “Bent Grass Court” center island, a grassy section in the middle of Bent Grass Court, that is often hosting impromptu baseball or football games, or even a good old game of tag. Many residents at Copperleaf are going for a run or walks, and kids are playing basketball in their driveways or riding their bikes. This pocket within The Bayou Club seems to be full of energy and laughter, I think that is probably a result from the houses all being so spacious, they attract families to make them their new forever home, or homeowners who enjoy a large home for entertaining and having friends over!

The Bayou Club and The Homes at Copperleaf are a wonderful place to live, right in the heart of Pinellas County. The Bayou Club is one of the few gated communities in the area, and the biggest of its kind in Central Pinellas. There are just over 400 single family homes total, they are nestled along a Tom Fazio designed championship golf course. Driving or walking in The Bayou Club gives you a park-like feeling, with tall trees lining the streets, the winding roads, the lakes and ponds and open green spaces.

When I was visiting Copperleaf the last time, I again saw some wildlife which seems to enjoy this private, gated oasis as well! The mix of nature preserved areas, ponds and golf course terrain has been known to be home not only to river otters, fish and birds, but to a few gators as well!

Things to see when boating on Lake Seminole …

I love living in the Largo | Pinellas Park, FL area, and our family takes full advantage of the many opportunities to go boating in our area. One of the few freshwater boating options we have close to Pinellas Park and Largo is boating on Lake Seminole.  Sometimes I do wonder if it isn’t better to go boating on the many salt water canals, though, in particular when we come accross this sign, posted about 30 feet from the public boat ramp at Lake Seminole park, where we put the boat in:

How morbid is the school bus parked in the background?!

I sure hope the kids are at the playground and not swimming!

Bay Pines – Boating When Living in The Bayou Club, Bardmoor, Bayou West or Bayou Cove and Surrounding Areas

Bay Pines

Public Boat Ramp at Bay Pines

When my husband and I moved to the area Bayou Club| Bardmoor in January of 2002, we knew that living in Largo, FL and boating would somehow have to go hand-in-hand for us. We moved to Florida from Chicago, didn’t buy a house on the water with a dock, but knew that we would want to make boating part of our new, Floridian lifestyle. In the fall of 2002 we bought a smaller boat, a 19 ft. Regal, and have been happily boating ever since.

Most people living in Largo, FL, do not have a house or a condo with a dock on the water, Largo is in Central Pinellas, and although the Bayou and Bardmoor Area and many other surrounding neighborhoods offer beautiful houses and condos, barely any of them are on boatable water. But Pinellas County has made it easy to combine living in Largo, FL and boating. Many Florida residents have their boats at marinas, or they keep them on trailers. Many subdivision’s deed restrictions do not allow boats to be parked in driveways, in The Bayou Club, Bayou West and Bayou Cove it is not allowed. We have a 3 car garage, and keep the boat trailer in the garage.  Anybody new to the area and/or looking to move here, if you are interested in boating, I’d be happy to help with my knowledge of the local deed restrictions pertaining to boats.

Entrance War Veterans Memorial Park

There are many high and dry marinas that will store your boat located right on the water, and many of them in close proximity to Largo, FL.  Since we have our boat on a trailer, we use the public boat ramps that are all over Pinellas County to go boating. Most often we use the ramp at “Bay Pines”, as boaters call it. It is a public boat ramp that is part of the War Veterans Memorial Park, a beautiful public Pinellas County Park, it is located at 9600 Bay Pines Blvd., St. Petersburg, FL.

The ramps at Bay Pines are wide and not too steep, they have just the right pitch, that it is easy to get the boat on the trailer even during low tide, without it being too steep that it is hard to pull out bigger, heavier boats. The floating docks are big and in good condition, so that they don’t scratch or damage boats that are tied up.

The Bay Pines ramp is located on “Long Bayou”, which leads via Boca Ciega Bay into the Gulf of Mexico. Its location is though well protected, and unless there is severe weather, the current is not very strong. Loading and unloading the boats is mostly a breeze here, I would recommend this ramp even for inexperienced boaters.

The Bay Pines Boat Ramp has restroom facilities, which are normally clean and well stocked, an added bonus after a long day of boating. The War Veterans Memorial Park itself is closed from dusk till dawn, but the boat ramp section is open 24/7. It costs $6.- to park a vehicle with boat trailer at the ramp, and $2.- to park a vehicle without trailer.

There is a big parking lot, even on weekends and Holidays the parking lot is not filled to maximum capacity for vehicles with boat trailers. However, there are only about 15 spots there for vehicles without trailers, so those are at a premium even during non-peak times.

Recreational Youth Basketball League near The Bayou Club, Bardmoor, Bayou West and surrounding areas

Boy and Girl Youth Basketball Players

Basketball Youth League Players from The Bayou Club | Bardmoor area

The area of The Bayou Club, Bardmoor, Bayou West and surrounding neighborhoods have many single family homes, and many children live in this area. I want to share some information about things to do for kids in The Bayou Club, Bardmoor, Bayou West and surrounding areas, and start with information about BASKETBALL!

For a beginners and recreational basketball league for children and young adults, I have found it tricky to find a good place to play at in Largo, Pinellas Park or even Seminole, FL. The best organized, and most welcoming, non-intimidating setting I can recommend is the Youth Basketball League at Pasadena Community Church!

Pasadena Community Church is located at 227 70th Street South, St. Petersburg, Florida 33707, Tel. 727-381-2499, it offers a wonderful youth sports program in its very own gym. It is very well-known in the area for its recreational youth basketball program, with players ranging from first grade through high school.  At the younger age range, the co-ed teams are giving boys and girls the opportunity for a fun and safe introduction to the sport. Older players focus on improving their skills further, and fine-tuning their technique. My children are playing their 2nd season there, and are excited to go to practice and games every single time!

Here the best part: The league is open to anybody! Costs are $75.-/player for a 8 week session, one weekday practice and Saturday morning game. It is run in a very friendly and welcoming spirit, here a direct quote from their website: “… we strive to provide your children with a unique opportunity unlike other recreation programs. We will not only teach them the basic skills, but our goal is to also teach them the importance of good sportsmanship and respect for their coaches as well as their teammates. We will strive for your child to have fun at the same time as learning.” Check out their website for registration forms and a league calendar.

If you are looking for a Youth Basketball League near The Bayou Club, Bardmoor, Bayou West and surrounding areas, check out Pasadena Community Church!

Happy 4th of July at a Bayou Club Home in Largo, FL

My family and I spend a wonderful afternoon and evening at a “Pre-“ 4th of July party at The Bayou Club in Largo this year.

We spend a wonderful afternoon and evening at Copperleaf on July 3rd, and this festive Pre-Independence Day get-together made our Nation’s Birthday really special for us this year.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Our hosts decorated their house in the American spirit, to celebrate our Nation’s Birthday, they flew the American flag, and greeted us with patriotic balloons. The hostess had a beautiful fresh flower arrangement in red, white and blue colors on her table, and all the tableware and other decorations throughout the house were in red, white and blue. Many of the guests showed their Independence day spirit by wearing bathing suits in patriotic colors, some even with patriotic patterns.

We enjoyed the festive day into the evening hours, and had a wonderful early 4th of July in the Bayou Club.

Thank you to our sweet friends and hosts for having us!
